Gigas launches a new promo for Cloud VPS, including the backup. From now on, if you purchase a new Cloud VPS (or if you purchase two units at the same time), we will include the backup service for both servers at no extra cost.
What does the backup include?
- Disk: it means the necessary storage to save all backups with a capacity equal to the size of the storage allocated to both cloud servers
- License (software): keep in mind that this backup allows you to make a copy of your entire disk automatically once a week, or manually, at any moment of your choice
- Templates: you will also be able to create templates that will allow you to do installations/reinstallations of any of your previous cloud servers in a very simple way

Gigas receives an innovation award
The last April 15, Gigas won an innovation award, in the I Edition of the ComputerWorld & CIO Latin American Awards.
This was a public recognition to the top and most innovative technological projects of companies from Spain and Latin America.
Apart from Gigas, ten more organizations were awarded in other categories, like for example Banco Sabadell, Ayuntamiento de Santader, Teléfonica, Cuatrecasas, etc.
The prize was collected by Gigas’ CIO Diego Cabezudo. He expressed his gratitude for the prize to the organization, and he pointed out the relevance of those who always have trusted in Gigas: customers, stockholders and of course, employees.

Data Center in Spain and USA .. Which one may I choose?
Since April 2013, Gigas has two data centers, one of them located in USA, and the other one in Spain. That means that from now on, our customers will be able to choose their servers physical location: Madrid or Miami.
What is the best choice?
The rule is: the less distance, the fewer latency and best connectivity. And the opposite: the more distance, the bigger latency and worst connectivity.
Latency means time delay in communications. If we reduce the distance that the information has to cover from the source up to the destination, we will reduce the delay. To reduce latency imply to increase connectivity (connection capacity).
Are there any other consequences?
The decision of one or another only affects in performance and operative terms. All the other services connected with the offer are the same regardless of location.
Besides, we remind that our Technical Support department works 24/7, and take care of customers in Spanish and English.

New Datacenter in Miami
Gigas expands its offer and the quality of its service with the opening of a new Data Center located in Miami.
The new Data Center has a Tier-IV certification (the higher qualification for a Data Center), and it is located in the well-known NAP of the Americas. It represents an international hub, with the best connectivity to Latin America.
This Data Center meets the most important technological requirements, in order to guarantee the service against any contingency: redundant electrical connection, cooling systems specially designed for high density environments, fire protection measures, etc.
From now on, Gigas’ customers can choose the best option for the location of their datacenters, The United States, or Spain. This fact is really important for us due to our ambitious expansion plan, which considers our development across Latam.
With our Data Center in Miami, we are able to ensure a lower latency and a better connectivity for Latam customers and for the Spanish customers with high traffic from the American continent.

day zero
We managed to register the gigas.es domain: it was available. We fell in love with Gigas as a brand from the first moment, and were convinced we had a great name for an ambitious project we had been playing with in our heads. Later on we purchased the rest of our domains: gigas.com, gigas.com.br, gigas.co.uk, gigas.fr, gigas.cl, gigas.pe, gigas.com.mx, etc… We also officially registered the Brand “Gigas” with the Spanish Patents and Brands Office. It was finally ours.
The project couldn’t be more ambitious: to build a powerful and innovative company from scratch, completely focused on cloud hosting and the IT paradigm shift it represents. After much study and analysis we decided to go ahead; the opportunity was clear. But the challenge was huge and it could only be executed by gathering a top team, young and enthusiastic yet mature and experienced. And sharing a common obsession: “a top implementation followed by the best customer service”. And we managed to put together that “A” team. Many of us here at Gigas have worked together in up to three different companies, and over 80% of us have already worked together at least once. We know each other well, very well.
Once the team was assembled and the development underway, we were able to close our funding round as planned, with a great pool of investors. We have to thank every one of them for the trust and support they have put in this team and the project.
And here we are, after intense months of hard work, just a few days away from launching Gigas to the world. Gigas is very demanding on all levels, maybe the most complex project we have executed so far (and we have done a few, like Terra, Ya.com, Telecable, O2, Fon, etc…), but still we are quite pleased with how Gigas is looking.
Today we are excited about opening this blog and being able to start providing an increased visibility into everything we’ve been doing, which we will continue doing with the utmost dedication and drive in order to reach our objectives: to be the preferred choice for powerful cloud hosting services for professionals and small and medium enterprises. We will reach beyond ourselves, from the first of us to the last, by providing excellent service and personalized, expert customer care.
These past months have been very intense and we are very fortunate for being able to turn an idea into a project. Gigas is now a reality, cloud hosting made easy.

During the next few days we will continue sharing all that can possibly be shared, presenting screen shots, pictures, experiences and all what we consider worthy of being shared, until Gigas´ official commercial launch.
