Gyper: The KVM-based alternative to VMware

Proprietary virtualisation software with a sovereign infrastructure.

Gyper is Gigas’s sovereign virtualisation architecture based on KVM. It combines the power of the Linux kernel with a proprietary management layer that eliminates the complexity and lock-in costs associated with proprietary models such as VMware.

Why migrate from VMware to Gyper

Icono poder

Performance and scalability

Gyper reduces overhead (resource overhead) from the typical 15% seen with VMware to just 2–3%. It scales CPU and RAM in real time.

Technical excellence and Gyper architecture

Unlike Type 2 or proprietary hypervisors with closed microkernels, Gyper uses a Type 1 (bare-metal) hypervisor that transforms the Linux kernel into the hypervisor itself. On top of this architecture, Gigas has developed its own dynamic orchestrator for the efficient management of VMs.

Kernel integration

Each VM is managed as a standard Linux process, making it easy to use modern tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

High-speed I/O stack

Use of optimised VirtIO drivers for networking and storage to achieve near-native network performance via passthrough.

Flexible storage (SDS)

Full support for Ceph, LVM, Gluster and NFS. This removes the limitations of proprietary file systems such as VMFS.

Live Migration

Available as standard via Libvirt, without the hidden costs associated with vMotion Enterprise licences.

Business resilience

Implementation of agile solutions for the immediate recovery of instances in the event of physical hardware failure.

When reliability matters, they choose Gigas.

Frequently Asked Questions about Gyper

Gyper offers true pay-as-you-go billing, unlike VMware’s mandatory minimum packages of 72 cores. It also provides linear and predictable scalability. This makes it a key factor in the IT department’s financial survival.

You want stability and simplicity. Whilst VMware uses a proprietary kernel and a heavy emulation layer, Gyper integrates the Linux kernel with KVM, making the virtual machine a native system process.

Gyper removes the technical barrier associated with KVM through a simple control panel and a free API. This avoids the complexity of vCenter, which does require certified staff.

At Gigas, you’ll have access to engineers specialising in Gyper whenever you need them. What’s more, they speak your language. Support is local and accessible, ensuring that your IT manager has a direct line to the experts.

No. Gyper is all about independence. By using the de facto standard for public cloud (KVM/QEMU), we ensure that your infrastructure is flexible, secure and fully interoperable.
